Newmont is one of the world's largest gold mining companies, their primary business is the exploration, development, and production of gold and copper. Although headquartered in Colorado the company operates several mines and processing facilities worldwide. Apart from its mining business, Newmont also engages in responsible resource development, exploration activities, and strategic partnerships with others in the industry.
The Business Challenge
Newmont faced significant challenges with their previous data management approach. They heavily relied on legacy applications like Google Bit Query and BOBJ, which not only required excessive manual effort but also lacked the capability to access and analyze data at a granular level. To address these issues, Newmont sought a solution that would help automate the process and provide comprehensive, self-service, visualizations, and reports. The main objectives were to normalize data throughout the organization, establish automation standards to mitigate risk, regulate reporting, and minimize human error. By pursuing this large-scale project, Newmont anticipated gaining access to previously untapped information.

To begin the transformation, Improving conducted a data and organizational readiness assessment. This assessment aimed to evaluate the current state of Newmont's processes, architecture, and data analytics capabilities. It aimed to identify any gaps or deficiencies in the existing setup.
