Our team was comprised of .NET developers, mobile developers, data developers, DevOps engineers, and UX designers.
The Business Challenge
Capstone Logistics brought on a new CTO to help streamline processes and mature the IT portion of the business. Part of his vision was to transition away from higher cost onshore consulting resources and lean more heavily on nearshore (Mexico) and offshore (Cairo) resources. Based on Improving’s strong relationship with Capstone, we were asked to build out nearshore teams to help them with this transformation.
The focus of this effort was primarily around production support and staff augmentation. Initially, we were asked to staff two teams to support Capstone Warehouse Services—a five-person application development team (three .NET developers, a QA, and a PM) and two three-person data teams (six data engineers). The application development team was tasked with taking over production support technical responsibilities to build a tier 2 team, allowing core development to stay focused on new features. Similarly, the development team also took over technical ticket troubleshooting and resolution for the data team.
Our Solution
Improving's solution was to build nearshore teams to support Capstone Logistics in their transformation efforts. They helped Capstone transition from higher-cost onshore consulting resources to a combination of onshore (Mexico) and offshore (Cairo) resources. Initially, Improving was asked to staff two teams for Capstone Warehouse Services: a five-person application development team and two three-person data teams. The application development team took over production support responsibilities, allowing the development team to focus on development activities. The development team also helped troubleshoot and resolve technical tickets for the data team. As these teams found success, other areas of the business reached out for help with their business units. Within nine months, the team scaled to 26 people, supporting every area of technology in Capstone’s business.
