State of AI - 2026 into 2027

Nov 18, 2026 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM UTC

Two good things happened to software teams in 2026. The work they already do got faster and sharper, and problems that sat out of reach in 2023 came within range. This webinar looks back at how that played out and casts forward to what 2027 holds.

In 2026, tens of thousands of developers dove into the growth journey of AI development. At Improving, we map that journey as a maturity ladder with eight stages, and the early gains came from task-level labor compression: one person, one repeatable task, a clear Role, Task, Context, and Constraints prompt, and a human who judges the result. That is the acceleration thread, and it is skills growth. It covers using AI to do the work you do today with more speed and more quality at once. We taught it as a structured program of six workshops over twelve weeks, and the same pattern held across engineers, project managers, and sales teams.

The innovation thread ran alongside it. Teams applied AI to problems and spaces that were not possible a few years ago, and our forward-deployed AI engineers carried that work into client organizations on a boxes-and-arrows model: agents help in the boxes, humans own the arrows, and each team moves through a lifecycle from stage 0 to stage 5. Across all of that effort, patterns started to emerge in how AI SDLC structures take shape. Teams that climbed fastest converged on similar habits for context, review, evaluation, and handoff.

In 2027, those patterns shift from differentiator to table stakes. We already see it in the market, and it expands beyond software teams into every function that runs on knowledge work. That expansion creates a new set of needs for most businesses: skills repositories where proven practices live, discovery so people can find what already works, compliance evidence that holds up under audit, and governance that scales past a single team. I walk through what each of those looks like in practice and where I expect organizations to feel the gap first.

There is no light switch moment. The gains compound in increments, and the organizations that build this foundation in 2027 carry the compounding forward.
